It looks like the new budget bill (the Budget Reconciliation Act) that was recently approved by the House of Representatives and the Senate may raise bankruptcy filing fees. Filing fees were already raised as a result of the new bankruptcy law that went into effect on October 17, 2005.
As a result of the new rulings, the new fees would be even higher. However, it is important to note that final congressional action on the increase won’t happen until the House resumes its business on January 31.
Total fees in Chapter 7 cases would increase to $299
Total fees in Chapter 13 cases would increase to $274.
